First Post :)

Hi welcome to my blog, which will teach you how to make a Micronation, here is my website where you can learn about my micronation, The McKtonion Empire

Video Introduction

What exactly is a Micronation?

Basically a Micronation is a government set up by an average Joe like you or me for various purposes, mostly as a hobby. The micronations interact with each other and act much like official nations, they engage in war, diplomacy, and other things that governments do.

Micronations generally have a number of common features:

  1. Micronations may have a form and structure similar to established sovereign states, including territorial claims, government institutions, official symbols and citizens, albeit on a much smaller scale.
  2. Micronations are often quite small, in both their claimed territory and claimed populations — although there are some exceptions to this rule, with different micronations having different methods of citizenship.
  3. Micronations may issue formal instruments such as postage stamps, coins, banknotes and passports, and confer honours and titles of nobility.

Starting a Micronation

So now that you have decided to start a Micronation there are some important steps in making one, first you should know about different types of Micronations.

In the present day, the following categories are generally accepted as being standard:

  1. Social, economic, or political simulations.
  2. Historical simulations.
  3. Exercises in personal entertainment or self-aggrandisement.
  4. Exercises in fantasy, creative fiction or artistic expression.
  5. Vehicles for the promotion of an agenda.
  6. Entities created for fraudulent purposes.
  7. Historical anomalies and aspirant states.
  8. Exercises in historical revisionism.
  9. New-country projects.
  10. Seasteading.

Naming Your Micronation

The Name of a country is probably the most important thing, it needs to reflect what it is about and it must symbolize something, remember if it sounds like a name of a nation, it is probably good. Good examples of names include:

Molossia
Aerican
McKtonion
Austenasia
Talossa

Remember the informal name is just the actual name, all formal nations have a much longer name that includes a quick description of their government

Real Life Examples include:
Russian Federation
Federal Republic of Germany
United States of America
French Republic
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Full names of the Micronations above:

Republic of Molossia
Aerican Empire

Empire of Austenasia
Republic (or Kingdom) of Talossa

Government

After you make the informal name, you must come up with a basic government to complete the formal part of your name, if you would wish to expand your government afterwards i would suggest you do that very last, right before you formally declare independence.  Your government can be as simple or complex as you wish.

Note: many micronations use a monarchy for their government, many more are republics, but your government can be completely different. Take my micronation, The McKtonion Empire, for example:
It has no parties (all people elected in are independent) and has a 3 party system of judicial, legislative, and executive branches. However while this model may look similar to the model of the US government, it is extremely different. First off the executive branch is made up of 2 people, The Emperor (current incumbent: McKay Roundy) and the Prime Minister (current incumbent: Zachary Weber), this empire does not just have the emperor as a figure head, nope he is the co-head of state, each has their own duties and each has their own powers, the Emperor stays in for life, unless an Imperial Election is called by the prime minister or 2/3 of the people. An Imperial Election consists of the current Emperor and the Prime Minister. After the Emperor dies an Imperial Election is always called, this time consisting of the Current Prime Minister, the First born of the last Emperor, and the Head of the Imperial Senate.

Flags and Symbols

Probably one of the most important parts to creating a micronation is making a flag. The flag is the symbol of your nation, it must be simple, it is best if the flag can be one symmetrical, thus allowing only one side to ever be made, and it must be neat, it must be a recognizable symbol and if it is too cluttered it will be, one hard to make, two, it wont look very good.

Good Examples of Flags:

Aerican Empire:

Empire of Austenasia:

Republic of Molossia:

McKtonion Empire: (note my flag is fairly cluttered, some may not want to have such a cluttered flag, but it still looks good and that's what counts)

Rember every flag should be a symbol and represent your micronation, so lets take a closer look at my flag to see what it represents:

First the colors:
Purple: Represents the Emperor and the Imperial Family (as purple has been a color of empires and emperors since the Romans)
Blue: Represents Freedom
White: Represents Justice
Red: Represents the Empire

Second the Symbols:
Purple Triangles: They look Cool :P
Sword: Represents Power and Strength
Olive Branches: Represents Peace
M: Represents the Empire and the Imperial Family

Other symbols needed is a Motto, a National Anthem, and any thing else you would like.

McKtonion Motto:
For Freedom, For Justice, For the Empire!

McKtonion Banner:
